All Puffed Up

I am happy to say that I can finally see the end of winter in sight. And while the days are slowly getting a litter bit warmer and a little bit longer, I have been able to enjoy the tail end of the season (better late then never right). I never thought I would be one to enjoy owning a puffer coat (yes you’re hearing that right and from a Canadian at that), but this one has been a godsend for me. I “borrowed” it from my Mom’s closet in early January and it was the greatest item I used/owned this winter season. Now don’t get me wrong, I am still looking forward to finally shoving it back into the closet for the year, though I don’t think I will return it to her anytime soon, sorry Momoo.

I Stopped Buying Clothes for 2 Months

Here’s What I Learned

Earlier this year Rye and I moved in together and it brought on a lot of changes, one of those was to my closet. I was now going from two big closets all to my self down to one tiny shared closet. Let me just say, I never knew how many items of clothing I had until I faced shoving it all into an eighth of the size space. Seeing as the closet was not going to get any bigger, I had to make my wardrobe smaller (or at least stop it from growing). So I decided to stop buying clothes for 2 months (a feat that proved harder than I thought), here is what I learned.

With the snow in Calgary continuing to fall I am starting to come to terms that we may still be in for a few more cold snaps. I normally do not overly mind the winter but this year has seemed to be more brutal than most. It may be the fact that it is the first full winter back in the City in years or that we have reached record snowfalls. At this point, I am counting down the days until I can break out the summer wear again (is it almost vacation time yet?) and trying to keep cozy in sweaters and big scarves.

Winter Walking

Rye and I recently escaped the city for the day to the mountains. It was a much-needed break for both of us with all of the craziness going on at work. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work and everyday life. Plus breaking out of the monotony of 8 to 5 is always an added bonus. I think it is so important to remind ourselves that there is more to this world than working away at a job you hate for money, maybe that’s why I am so adamant at a career change … again … or maybe I just can’t make up my mind.

Snowy Days

My favourite part about late fall is that in the mountains it becomes winter a lot faster. There is nothing more calming for me than being surrounded by hundreds of mountains and crisp snowy air. While I know for many the first signs of snow brings anxiety to many as they know the cold winter days are ahead, but I could not be happier when I finally see it falling from the sky. I guess I am one for extremes (hot or cold).

The other day Rye and I went exploring in our own city … okay we actually went to a Corn Maze that had been destroyed (something we did not realize until after getting there). We decided to make the best of it and explore around anyways. What could have been a bit of a let down, turned into an absolutely amazing time. It’s days like these that remind me that you can always make the best of a bad situation and turn it into something great, it just needs to be a conscious choice.
