This past weekend, Rye and I took a much-needed break from pergola building and tree planting at the cabin to capture some action shots of Achilles. While I pride myself on being a blog of whatever I feel like posting at any given time (and no real structure), I have not really posted the “dug photo-shoots” that we do every so often. So as today is Achilles’ 10th Birthday, I figured what better time than now to start sharing some of these photos (Also if you like doggies then I promise to share more of these posts in the future… if not then I apologize in advance for the overwhelming love and sappiness I have for Achilles that is about to follow).

We have all been there, some maybe more than most. Those times when everything seems to be going wrong and you are lost in your own world. Maybe things just don’t seem to be working out as you intended, or you are not progressing/moving forward like you had hoped, or you’ve been facing some hardship and bad news. It seems like no matter what you do or how much you do nothing changes and you have lost your purpose.

It is scary to me that today I turn 25 and have now been on this earth for a quarter of a century. Birthday’s for me have always been weird. I have never been able to fully capture into words what today means to me personally (especially when trying to share it with others) and that is in part due to my discomfort in the day being all about me. Birthdays are not really a celebration for me, but more of a reflection and an introspective look into the course of the year or in general just my time here on earth. It is a day for me to plan on how to be better going forward for myself but more importantly the people around me.

Today & Every Day
Happy Earth Day! Every year I let this day be a great reminder to myself of why I need to get out of my winter shell, go outside and once again get in touch with the Earth. And not to sound too much like my Mom, it is an amazing opportunity to take time to celebrate all the things we are blessed with just by being on this planet. It is a day to reconnect with this beautiful rock, commit to simple changes with big impacts and remind ourselves why it is so important to protect it, not just on this day but every day.

Even If It Is Just For A Day
I will be the first to admit that I can be extremely addicted to my phone. When I wake up in the morning, well most mornings at least, I roll over and check my phone for the time. Lucky for me I am not so popular that I have a ton of missed messages, most of my friends know by now that texting is the wrong way to get ahold of me. But the first thing I do, 9 times out of 10 before I am even out of bed, is to start scrolling through Instagram, checking all the stories and new photos. Then I go through my notifications, my emails and check all the updates on my games (yes, I still play a fair amount of mobile games… will I ever grow up).

Tips for Minimal Packing on Longer Trips
For most of my life, I have been the queen of overpacking. When I was younger I used to pack a large bag for a sleepover and my packing for camping literally comprised my entire closet. Every time I went somewhere I wanted to have every possible thing with me “just-in-case”.
Now I am not saying I am anywhere near perfect when it comes to packing, but over the years I have been able to refine what I pack for vacation. This has been in part due to the fact that I am too cheap to pay for checked baggage (I also can not be bothered to wait for it at the carousel) and also because I end up lugging all these items that, for the most part, remain unused on vacation (I thank my backpacking trip through Germany for this).
