Last week, Rye and I decided to spontaneously go on a picnic. I think we were both bored of sitting at home and eating dinner the same way we always do. And with the weather being so nice, it was hard to pass up the idea of getting out of the house and enjoying nature for an evening. I remember growing up as a kid dreaming about sitting on a gingham blanket and enjoying a meal with my partner out in the sun. I am pretty sure it was every single romantic comedy that came out during that time that made me think it was some sort of relationship milestone or right of passage.

I have been struggling for quite some time (since moving really) on nailing down where home is for me. It has been a weird transition in my life because upon moving out this time it became very clear that it was more permanent than the times before. I was not off to school and returning back. It was me moving forward with my life and away from the childhood home, where I grew up and the place where I largely became who I am today. Moving was also a big step in my life and relationship with Ryan; it was really the beginning of planning a future together.

I have been having a moment with simple dresses lately as they are one of the easiest items to throw on quickly without having to think too much. When summer comes around, while I love the warm weather (and would rarely complain), I am always looking for quick pulled together looks. It is also an easy excuse for me to wear the overgrown number of dresses in my closet … without needing to pair them with tights (because let’s be honest there are few clothing items worse than tights).

A little late, but again time seems to be flying by. This past month was filled with so many amazing moments. It was a month of accomplishments, family, and self-care for the most part and brought about new change (as I find spring and May generally does).
I am soon posting a life update that will encompass a lot of this but here is a brief look at the last month. My family celebrated my older brother graduating from University, I was accepted (finally) to return back to school, the warmer weather finally seemed to arrive (and Rye and I managed to make it into the mountains), and we finished a massive project at the cabin (to name a few). I was able (as most Calgarians were) to finally enjoy the nice weather, getting out gardening at my dad’s and finding some plants to spruce up the balcony at home. The summer is already ramping up and I am looking forward to some really great things to come.

A little while back I did a post about how I stopped buying clothes for 2 months. Since then I have noticed that my clothing shopping has seriously been reduced and I am no longer constantly drawn to the mall or stores to buy more stuff to fill my closet. Instead, I have found myself focusing more and more on only getting items that are needed or complete a well-rounded closet. I also have somehow managed to continue to donate or sell off items of clothing over the past few months (yes I have that many items of clothing in my closet).

This past weekend, Rye and I took a much-needed break from pergola building and tree planting at the cabin to capture some action shots of Achilles. While I pride myself on being a blog of whatever I feel like posting at any given time (and no real structure), I have not really posted the “dug photo-shoots” that we do every so often. So as today is Achilles’ 10th Birthday, I figured what better time than now to start sharing some of these photos (Also if you like doggies then I promise to share more of these posts in the future… if not then I apologize in advance for the overwhelming love and sappiness I have for Achilles that is about to follow).
